Many nonprofits believe an annual giving program revolves around the annual letter sent sometime in November. Then they wonder why they don’t receive many gifts from their solicitation.
Annual giving is much more than just sending a letter once a year. It is about developing a program that an organization can use to generate dollars (mainly for operating needs) throughout the year. In fact, we believe that the best way to look at annual giving is this:
An Annual Giving program consists of gifts that an organization can reasonably expect to get on an annual basis. These gifts are often the basis for determining the fundraising revenue of an organization and may include an annual fundraising appeal, board campaign, face-to-face solicitations, special event income, memorial and tribute gifts and grants. (Often grants are project or program based, not operating.)
